A woman possessed...

I have become utterly obsessed with my latest crochet WIP.

Photo courtesy of Annette Ciccarelli - thank you!

The Nordic Shawl, from My Rose Valley. I am not even a shawl person, but I am crocheting like a woman possessed.

I add a few stitches in the morning while the children eat breakfast.

Tea breaks during the day include a row in the next colour.

I keep my project in the simple brown paper bag from the yarn shop. I transport it to music lessons, ballet lesson, waiting rooms, like some odd crafty bag lady.

I used the excuse of my crochet workshop to hook row after row into the evenings – it was Course Week 2 this week, and I was teaching half-treble and treble, so of course the shawl was the perfect example! They were suitably impressed, and quite delighted to know that by the end of the evening they had learned the skills to make one, too!

So many Nordic Shawls being made in blogland, so many gorgeous colourways - this obviously will be the must-have article of clothing for spring...

I will become a Shawl Person. Perhaps it’s the luxurious Sublime Yarn I am using, the wonderfully soft and ultra-smooth wool is a delight to hook.

Perhaps it’s the muted palette, in my favourite range of shades. I just can't stop hooking, I want to see what the next row looks like, then the next...

Perhaps it’s the promise of a pretty item just for *me*.

Whatever the reason, I am having fun speed-crocheting this week! The only reason this isn’t a ta-dah post is because I had chamber choir rehearsal last night, and I can’t hold music and crochet at the same time...are you wondering if I tried?

Have you ever been obsessed with a crochet project? Or am I just losing the plot?

Link up what’s possessing you and your hook below!

Chrissie x

  7. Can't believe you got this finished so quickly - seems like it was only last week it was in its infancy? Love the colours and bet that Sublime yarn is really snuggly. It's gorgeous, well done you. Have a good week.

  9. It's looking gorgeous Chrissie! I love the colours you chose, and the idea of you manically crocheting whenever you can made me smile (and reminded me of my very first "proper" crochet make, an Attic 24 bag which i wouldn't put done all one weekend until it was complete!).

  17. Darling Chrissie, couldn't you put your music on a music stand and ask one of your fellow choristers just to turn the pages when necessary? Tee hee :-) I am picturing it! Love, love, love your shawl - the colours are just perfect. I'm obsessing over a chevron blankie at the mo that I'd fully intended to post & link up about today, but I had to frog it and start again because after 20 (looong) rows, I realised that I'd made a mistake right back near the beginning - aargh!
Hope the weather's not too horrid where you are,
    hugs xx

  22. I've seen the Nordic Shawl before, and yours is looking beautiful....can totally see why you are obsessing over it right now. Though it would make me giggle seeing you try to do music and crochet at the same time, if only huh?

  25. What a beautiful piece this is Chrissie and of course those are colours that I love too, which makes it all the better! Ah yes, you are hooked alright but what a lovely thing to be hooked on. I have just started another little stitchie towards a quilted 'something or other' but when I look at your gorgeous shawl I immediately want to pick up the hook again and start on one of those; maybe that makes me 'obsessive compulsive'!!!!! Warm hugs, Joy xo

  26. It's looking so beautiful, Chrissie! I can see why you'd be obsessed. I felt this way when I made a giant granny square blanket, it was so repetitive and relaxing and I craved time with it. I am sure your shawl will look gorgeous on you.

  32. I've just had the yarn for my Nordic Shawl delivered (also Sublime) so can't wait to get started. Trouble is there are too many WIP's but they say variety is the spice of life! Details at www.crafthippy.com. Love seeing all these shawls in blogland! X jane x

  33. Sorry don't understand. That's not addiction, it's normal to crochet everywhere you can. Gets a few odd looks when out in public but I'm sure they are just envious.

  34. Hello my friend and what a beautiful shawl you are creating there. I cannot believe how quickly you are whizzing this up. I am still working on the border of my spring throw and then once I have done a custom order I will be jumping in the bandwagon. I am still to decide on my colours and I must say I feel a tad excited. I hope you are keeping well. Sending you much love xoxo

  36. Hello Lovely Chrissie sorry for the absence but as usual work dominates my life at present. What a shawl it is simply stunning. I am not a shawl person myself now although I used to be a few years ago when they were a big fashion must but after seeing your creation I think I could return to those days. I love your work Chrissie, it is just lovely. Have a fabulous Sunday, sending you lots of love

  37. Oh Chrissie, your shawl is just gorgeous! I'm working on one too, but so far it's all gray, none of the wonderful colorfulness your's has. I was never a shawl person either, but a nice big shawl to wrap yourself up in when it's chilly, is wonderful. I love them now! As always, your work is just beautiful! xo

  38. I think you could definitely become a shawl person! I'm the same, I don't own any but I've seen a really beautiful Northern Hemisphere star map shawl which I absolutely NEED to make! I love the colours you've chosen for yours, very different to the others I've seen and as beautiful :-)

  39. Dear Chrissie. What can I say??? I LOVE your colors. It seem so surreal for me to read about and see my shawl all over Blogland but my oh my I'm proud. I have now made two shawls and might even get started on a third. The color option ideas in my head are endless and makes every make so unique. I'm so pleased to see you really enjoy my pattern. Thank you for such a nice "Blog-spread". :D I am also pleased to hear your classes are going well. Mine has come to a stop after Christmas as I have been way to busy with life itself. Hopefully I will awaken some interest with my Valentine's special this week. Keep creating girl. You are close to the lace edge finish.

PS Nothing wrong with crochet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For TV, ball games and doctor's office. Cafées, train stations and gym classes. Choirs? Might be a bit tricky but it could work. Yarn ball in your pocket, WiP in your hands and lets swing it.
